Marcos Barinas-Uribe did graduate studies at Catholic University of America and the Southern California Institute of Architecture under a Fulbright Scholarship. Later on he did postgraduate studies in International Relationships at the National School of Diplomacy in Santo Domingo and a Graduate Diploma on Urban Settlements and Environment from Universidad de Chile.
For his professional practice he has won numerous awards including: Gold Medal in Public Landscape Architecture at Miami Beach+03 Biennale of Architecture; First prize in Landscape Architecture at Santo Domingo Biennale of Architecture; and a Honorable Mention Award in the International Competition "Compostela 2000: The European City as a Model".
He was appointed as Director of Urbanism and Architecture of the Ministry of Housing in Dominican Republic in 1997. In the year 2000, he took charge of the Department of Architecture and Engineering of the Ministry of Environment. In 2004, he was selected as Interin Director of the National Council of Urban Issues.
Marcos Barinas-Uribe is currently the coordinator of the Master Pogram in Sustainable Design at Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo. He has been a visiting lecturer at architecture schools in Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the United States.
