TOM MARVEL

Director, Marvel Arch Associates
Thomas S. Marvel, F.A.I.A., was born in Newburgh, New York. He studied at Dartmouth College and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where he received a Masters Degree in Architecture, with distinction. He worked with R. Buckminster Fuller before moving to Puerto Rico in 1959. Since then, Mr. Marvel has led an active practice of architecture and urban design in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean as a principal of his own firm. He has authored two books, one on the Architecture of the Churches of Puerto Rico and one on Antonin Nechodoma, a Prairie School architect practicing in Puerto Rico, and has recently published a Portfolio of his own drawings and plans. Besides maintaining his own practice, Marvel he has been a visiting critic at schools of architecture in North and South America, and has been a member of the faculty at the School of Architecture of the University of Puerto Rico. Mr. Marvel has been active in civic and professional design organizations at the local and international level.
